Tribute to Tom from Margaret

I still can’t quite believe that Tom is no longer with us. For someone who was so full of life to be taken so young in such a traumatic fashion has come as a terrible shock to all of us. Thank you for getting in touch with me, setting up the WhatsApp group and keeping us all informed. Tom touched the lives of the most unbelievable number of people and there will be so many people missing him.

I first met Tom when I was posted to Aberdeen in 1989 and we played lots of golf together in the Saturday Wanderers trying lots of different golf courses and having a great time.  I then got moved to Holland, but we still kept in touch and got together when I visited Aberdeen. A couple of times he joined the rest of the Saturday Wanderers coming to stay at my Timeshare in Loch Rannoch. When he got posted to London, I had retired by then, and we persuaded him to join Strawberry Hill Golf Club, where he took part in everything and made a lot of friends. Strawberry Hill Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 2000 and Tom joined our team for dressing up and playing on the Victorian Day. After London he got transferred to Oman where again he got to know everyone and made lots of new friends. When he retired and settled back in Aberdeen he was as active as ever and joined in (and organised!) lots of activities. I’m glad to say that when he came down to the London area he often got in touch and we had some very enjoyable meals out in Richmond and caught up with all the news.
